mentoplasty is a
plastic surgery procedure that can refer to either chin reduction or chin augmentation. during a chin reduction surgery, the surgeon removes part of the bone tissue that makes up the chin to enhance the appearance of the lower jawline, neck, and chin area. the primary goal of this cosmetic surgical procedure is to reduce the projection of an overly-prominent chin, thereby helping to increase the patient’s
facial appearance, self-esteem, and confidence.
a chin reduction surgery can improve
facial aesthetics by bringing the chin into better balance with other
facial features. having an overly large chin is called “macrogenia”, a condition which can significantly decrease
facial attractiveness and cause low self-esteem and lacking confidence in social situations. this type of
plastic surgery is commonly performed at the same time as
rhinoplasty (nose surgery), a
brow lift, or other cosmetic procedures to increase
facial harmony.
during a chin reduction after anesthesia is applied, an incision will be made either inside the mouth along the bottom lip or underneath the chin. at this point, the skin will be separated from the chin bone and the reshaping of the chin structure can begin. excess bone and tissue will be removed and the tip of the chin may be repositioned to be less prominent. the tip of the chin will then be secured with metal wires and plates. an implant may be placed in the chin to smooth out sharp contours.
once the chin has been repositioned and shaved, the incision will be sutured closed. incisions made under the chin will leave minimal scars, while inner-mouth incisions will be completely hidden.
because every patient is completely unique and therefore requires a customized treatment plan, the costs of chin reduction vary significantly. the average cost for chin reduction in the usa is roughly $2500. however, after adding in all relevant costs (hospital fees, anesthesiology, aftercare medications, etc.), the actual cost of chin reduction can exceed $5000.
what is chin and jawline contouring?
if you are unhappy with a weak chin or jawline,
dermal fillers can improve
facial harmony without surgery. the accurate placement of an appropriately selected
hyaluronic acid (ha) dermal filler at the angle of the jaw, in the chin and the jowl area, can recreate an aesthetically youthful and structured jawline. a short, weak chin can be made to appear longer and more defined, and a jowly jawline made to look more firm and contoured. mr olivier amar has an artistic eye and specialises in creating a subtle and completely natural look with non-surgical chin augmentation. adding as little as a few millimetres to the projection of the chin can create a subtle but transformative improvement to
facial proportions, leaving patients with a more defined jawline and balancing the profile.
treatment is safe, quick, non-invasive, non-surgical and results are almost instant.
why consider chin and jawline contouring?
the shape of your lower face can be decided by your genetics, or you may see changes that occur with age. dermal
filler treatments can:
● strengthen a weak or short chin
● improve the proportion of the nose to the jawline
● restore the youthful ‘v’ shape of the face.
● soften the crease that forms above the chin with age.
● soften the angle of the chin
● sculpt and lift sagging skin and jowls.
